유엔참전국 후손 교류캠프에 참석해주신 여러분, 반갑습니다. 국가보훈부 차관 이희완입니다. Let me first thank you for coming to the UN Sending States Exchange Camp. I am Lee Hee-wan, the Vice-Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
2025년 유엔참전국 후손 교류캠프에 참가하기 위해 전 세계 13개국에서 와주신 유엔참전용사 후손분들 그리고 참전국과 대한민국의 미래세대를 책임질 우수한 청년분들을 진심으로 환영합니다. I wholeheartedly welcome the descendants of UN veterans from 13 countries who traveled a long way to join us for the 2025 UN Sending States Exchange Camp, as well as the promising young people who will lead the future of the participating countries and the Republic of Korea.
유엔참전국 후손 교류캠프는 한국전쟁으로 맺어진 소중한 인연을 미래세대로 계승하고, 유엔참전국과의 연대와 우정을 강화하기 위해 2009년 시작되어 올해로 16회째를 맞이하고 있습니다. The UN Sending States Exchange Camp, first conceived in 2009 in order to preserve the precious ties forged during the Korean War for generations to come and to strengthen solidarity and friendship with UN participating nations, is now celebrating its 16th anniversary.
특히, 올해부터는 참여대상을 확대하여 참전용사 후손과 국내외 대학생까지 포함하여 참전국의 미래를 책임질 우수한 인재들이 함께하게 되었습니다. Starting this year, we have expanded the participant eligibility, inviting not just descendants of veterans but also college students from home and abroad, who will play a vital role in shaping the future of the participating countries.
75년 전, 북한의 남침으로 대한민국이 존립의 위기에 처했을 때 22개 유엔참전국 약 2백만 유엔참전용사님들이 목숨을 걸고 이 땅의 자유와 평화를 수호했습니다. 75 years ago when the fate of the Republic of Korea hung by a thread due to North Korea’s invasion, nearly two million UN veterans from 22 member nations risked their lives to defend freedom and peace on this land.
그 숭고한 헌신 위에서 대한민국은 전쟁의 참화를 극복하고 K-문화, K-푸드, IT 등 주요 분야에서 세계를 이끄는 국가로 성장했습니다.
Their invaluable sacrifice allowed Korea to rise from the ashes of war, transforming into a global powerhouse in K-culture, K-food, and the ICT industry.
지금 계신 여러분의 나이 혹은 그보다 더 어린 나이에 생사가 오가는 참혹한 전쟁의 공포 속에서 유엔참전용사들은 무엇을 지키고자 하였고, 무엇을 지켰을까요? In the horror of those miserable wartime days, when they could not see the future or secure even their own lives, what did they truly want to protect? and what did they ultimately achieve? Some were even younger than many of you sitting here today.
이번 유엔참전국 후손 교류캠프에서 그 답을 찾아가시도록 국가보훈부가 많은 프로그램을 기획했습니다. We, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, have planned many programs for this Exchange Camp to help you find the answer.
여러분은 일주일 동안 6·25전쟁의 역사와 참전용사의 희생을 기억하고, 유엔참전용사들의 희생 위에 피어난 대한민국의 현재를 체험하며, 서로를 향한 우정을 다지고 참전국 미래세대 간 연대를 그리게 됩니다. Over the next week, you will have the opportunity to remember the history of the Korean War and the sacrifices of the veterans, and witness how Korea has become what it is today on their sacrifice. This camp will be a meaningful opportunity to deepen our friendship and foster solidarity among the future generations of the participating countries.
이번 캠프가 지난 75년간 이어온 대한민국과 유엔참전국의 인연을 더욱 끈끈한 우정으로 발전시켜나가는 소중한 시간이 되기를 바랍니다. I hope that we can further develop our ties that have been fostered over the past 75 years into an even enduring friendship.
또한, 캠프 후에도 여기 계신 모두가 대한민국과 유엔참전국을 잇는 민간 외교사절이 되어주시기를 당부드립니다. Let me also ask that all of you present here serve as civilian diplomats, strengthening the connections between Korea and the UN participating countries long after this camp has ended.
올해 캠프의 슬로건은 ‘함께 그려나가는 참전의 연대, M.A.P. Together’입니다. 함께 기억하고(Memory), 함께 행동하며(Act), 함께 발전해갑시다(Progess). The camp slogan this year is “M.A.P. Together: Building the Future Solidarity”. Let us keep the Memory together (Memory), Act together (Act), and Progress together (Progress).
