국가유산청 한국전통문화대학교(총장 강경환, 이하 '전통문화대')는 이탈리아 파비아대학교에서 학술교류협정을 갱신(1.29, 현지 시간 15시)하고, 그리스 서아티카대학교에서는 신규 학술교류협정을 체결(2.2, 현지 시간 12시)하는 등 유럽 주요 대학과의 국제협력 체계를 강화하기 위한 현지 협약식을 각각 개최하였다.

유럽권 교육 기관 두 곳과의 이번 협력은 한국전통문화대학교가 전통문화와 문화유산 분야에서 축적해 온 교육·연구 성과를 바탕으로, 단순한 교류를 넘어 공동 연구와 교육, 전시로 이어지는 대학 간 협력 모델을 구축하고, 문화유산을 활용한 전시와 체험 프로그램을 통해 현지 시민과 직접 소통하는 문화 교류 기회를 확대하기 위한 취지이다.

먼저, 전통문화대는 2021년 2월 이탈리아 파비아대학교와 학술교류협정을 맺고 '섬유 및 목재 유물 보존 공동연구실'을 설치하는 등 문화유산 보존·복원 분야에서 공동 연구와 협력을 이어 왔는데, 이번 협정 갱신을 통해 전통공예 분야로 협력 범위를 더욱 넓히고, 교원과 학생 상호 교류, 공동 프로젝트 및 방문 프로그램 기획·운영 등 더욱 다양한 활동들을 추진하고자 한다.

새로 학술교류협정을 체결한 그리스 서아티카대학교와는 전통공예 문화유산 분야 공동 연구를 비롯해 전시 및 교육 프로그램 교류, 교원·학생 교류 확대, 단기 연수회(워크숍) 및 현장 연계 프로그램 개발 등을 위해 협력하고자 한다. 또한, 그 일환으로 전통문화대는 1월 31일부터 2월 4일까지 그리스 아테네 구시가지 중심부에 위치한 '바람의 목욕탕(The Bath House of Wind)'에서 한복 전시를 개최한다.
해당 공간은 로마 아고라와 바람의 탑 인근에 위치한 현대 그리스 문화 박물관 소속 시설로, 오스만 시기 공중목욕탕 유적으로서 역사적 가치와 장소성을 동시에 지녔다.

전시에서는 전통문화대 전통미술공예학과 학생들이 제작한 의복과 장신구 17종 등 총 70점의 작품을 만날 수 있으며, 한복의 조형미와 전통 기법, 전통복식이 지닌 문화유산적 가치를 국제 무대에 소개하는 기회이자, 교육 현장에서 축적된 성과를 전시 콘텐츠로 확장하는 모범적인 교육·전시 연계 모델이 될 것으로 기대된다.

전시 기간 중 1월 31일과 2월 1일에는 관람객이 직접 참여할 수 있는 '갓 매듭 열쇠고리 만들기' 체험 프로그램(1일 3회, 회차당 15명)도 함께 운영되었다.

앞으로도 국가유산청 한국전통문화대학교는 전통문화 기반의 국제교육협력을 지속적으로 강화하기 위해 전 세계 관련 교육기관들과의 글로벌 협력망을 확대해나가는 적극행정을 이어갈 것이다.

The Korea Heritage Service–affiliated Korea National University of Heritage (President Kang Kyung-hwan) has further strengthened its international cooperation framework with leading European institutions by hosting two on-site ceremonies: the renewal of its academic exchange agreement with the University of Pavia on January 29 (3:00 p.m., local time), and the signing of a new academic exchange agreement with the University of West Attica on February 2 (12:00 p.m., local time).

These partnerships reflect KNUH's commitment to advancing global collaboration grounded in its long-standing educational and research achievements in traditional culture and cultural heritage. Moving beyond conventional exchange activities, the University seeks to establish an integrated model of inter-university cooperation—linking joint research and education with exhibitions and public engagement—while expanding opportunities for direct cultural dialogue with local communities through heritage-based programs.

Renewed partnership with the University of Pavia: expanding from conservation research to traditional crafts
Since signing its initial agreement in February 2021, KNUH and the University of Pavia have maintained active collaboration in cultural heritage conservation and restoration, including the establishment of a joint research laboratory focused on the conservation of textile and wooden artifacts. Through the renewed agreement, the two institutions will broaden the scope of cooperation to include traditional crafts, and further promote faculty and student exchange, joint projects, and the planning and operation of reciprocal visits and academic programs.

New agreement with the University of West Attica: joint research, education, and public-facing heritage programs
Under the newly signed agreement with the University of West Attica, the two universities will pursue cooperation across multiple areas, including joint research in traditional crafts and cultural heritage, exchanges of exhibition and educational programs, expanded faculty and student mobility, and the development of short-term training workshops and field-based collaborative initiatives.

As part of this partnership, KNUH will present a Hanbok exhibition from January 31 to February 4 at the Bath House of the Winds in the historic center of Athens. The venue—an affiliated facility of the Museum of Modern Greek Culture—is a historic Ottoman-era public bathhouse located near the Roman Agora and the Tower of the Winds, offering a setting of strong historical significance and sense of place.

The exhibition showcases 70 works created by students of KNUH's Department of Traditional Arts and Crafts, spanning 17 categories of garments and accessories. It is expected to serve as an opportunity to introduce the formative beauty of Hanbok, time-honored techniques, and the cultural heritage value embodied in traditional Korean dress on the international stage—while also demonstrating an exemplary model of expanding educational outcomes into public-facing exhibition content.

To enhance public engagement, the exhibition period will also include a hands-on cultural experience program—"Making a Gat-Knot Keyring"—available through Google Form registration. The program will run three sessions per day, with up to 15 participants per session.

KNUH will continue to expand its global network of partner institutions and strengthen international educational cooperation rooted in traditional culture and cultural heritage, advancing proactive initiatives that foster sustainable, mutually beneficial collaboration worldwide.
