국가유산청 한국전통문화대학교(총장 강경환)는 7월 2일부터 13일까지 충남 부여 본교와 K-Heritage국제센터, 서울·부여·전주 일대 주요 문화유산 현장에서 외국인 교환학생 대상 국가유산 융합 교육 프로그램 「K-헤리티지 필드 스터디(K-Heritage Field Study)」를 운영했다.
올해로 3회째를 맞은 이번 프로그램은 한국전통문화대학교 K-Heritage국제센터가 주관하는 연례 하계 교육과정으로, 한국 전통 공예와 국가유산의 가치를 '장인정신'의 관점에서 조명하고 해외 학생들에게 한국 국가유산 교육을 체계적으로 제공하기 위해 마련됐다. 특히 올해는 처음으로 한국인 학생 4명과 외국인 학생 8명이 함께 참여하는 공동 학습형 과정으로 운영돼 상호 문화 교류의 의미를 더했다.
참가자들은 2주간 '재료(Material)–기법(Technique)–현장(Fieldwork)–성찰(Reflection)'로 이어지는 교육과정을 통해 한국 국가유산의 가치와 활용 가능성을 학습했다.
한국전통문화대학교와 국립부여박물관에서 도자, 복식, 음식, 건축 등 각 분야 전문가들의 특강을 들은 뒤 전통매듭 만들기를 직접 실습하며 이론과 기법을 함께 익혔다. 전주에서는 한옥마을에 머물며 전통 가옥의 구조와 생활문화를 몸으로 체험하고, 직접 김치를 담그는 실습을 했다. 서울에서는 덕수궁에서 한옥 건축에 대한 수업을 듣고, 국립국악원에서 전통 공연을 관람했으며, 국립고궁박물관과 서울공예박물관에서 왕실 공예와 현대 공예에 관한 강의를 들었다. 이를 통해 참가자들은 국가유산의 여러 분야를 이론과 실습을 넘나들며 균형 있게 이해하는 시간을 가졌다.
한국전통문화대학교는 국내 유일의 국가유산 분야 특수목적 국립대학으로서, 2023년부터 외국인 대상 「K-헤리티지 아카데미(K-Heritage Academy)」를 운영하고 있다. 이번 「K-헤리티지 필드 스터디」는 2026년도 아카데미 3개 과정 중 두 번째 프로그램으로, 앞서 첫 번째 프로그램으로는 주한 외교사절 대상으로 진행됐던 「2026 K-헤리티지 데이(K-Heritage Day)」(5.14.)가 진행된 바 있다. 하반기에는 글로벌 문화 리더를 대상으로 한 「K-헤리티지 리더십 프로그램」을 이어갈 예정이다.
국가유산청 한국전통문화대학교는 앞으로도 국가유산의 가치를 세계와 공유하는 교육 프로그램을 지속적으로 확대하여 한국 국가유산의 국제적 확산과 위상 제고에 기여할 계획이다.
Korea National University of Heritage (KNUH, President Kang Kyung-hwan) announced the successful conclusion of its "K-Heritage Field Study" program, held from July 2 to July 13. This national heritage convergence education program for foreign exchange students was conducted across the university's main campus in Buyeo, South Chungcheong Province, the K-Heritage International Center, and major cultural heritage sites in Seoul, Buyeo, and Jeonju.
Now in its third year, the K-Heritage Field Study is an annual summer program hosted by KNUH's K-Heritage International Center. The program was designed to reexamine the value of Korean traditional crafts and national heritage through the lens of the "artisan spirit," while offering international students systematic access to Korean heritage education. This year's program marked a notable milestone, introducing for the first time a mixed cohort of 4 Korean and 8 international students who studied and traveled together, deepening the program's spirit of intercultural exchange.
Structured around a four-stage curriculum — Material, Technique, Fieldwork, and Reflection — the two-week program combined theoretical instruction with immersive, hands-on experience. In Buyeo, participants attended expert lectures at KNUH and the National Buyeo Museum on ceramics, traditional costume, cuisine, and architecture, then practiced traditional Korean knot-making (maedeup) to put that learning into practice. In Jeonju, students stayed in the Jeonju Hanok Village, experiencing firsthand the structure and everyday life of a traditional Korean house, and tried their hand at making kimchi. In Seoul, the program continued with a class on hanok architecture at Deoksugung Palace, a traditional performance at the National Gugak Center, and lectures on royal and contemporary craftsmanship at the National Palace Museum of Korea and the Seoul Museum of Craft Art. Through this progression, participants gained a well-rounded understanding of Korean heritage, moving fluidly between theory and practice across a range of disciplines. As Korea's only special-purpose national university dedicated to heritage education, KNUH has operated the "K-Heritage Academy" since 2023 to give international participants systematic opportunities to engage with Korea's national heritage. This field study was the second of three courses in the 2026 K-Heritage Academy; the first, "2026 K-Heritage Day" (May 14), welcomed members of the diplomatic corps in Korea, and the third, the "K-Heritage Leadership Program" for global cultural leaders, is scheduled for the second half of the year.
The Korea Heritage Service's Korea National University of Heritage plans to continue expanding programs that share the value of Korean national heritage with the world, contributing to its international recognition and standing.
