- 10월 7일~11일 4대궁과 종묘에서 개최… 외국인 참여 기회도 확대 - '규장각 초계문신 워크숍', '조선 공간 미학' 등 신규 프로그램 첫선
국가유산청 궁능유적본부(본부장 조규형)는 국가유산청 산하 국가유산진흥원(원장 이귀영)과 함께 '2026 가을 궁중문화축전'을 오는 10월 7일(수)부터 11일(일)까지 5일간 경복궁·창덕궁·덕수궁·창경궁과 종묘 일원에서 개최한다.
'궁중문화축전(이하 축전)'은 서울의 4대궁과 종묘에서 공연·전시·체험·역사 재현 등 다양한 프로그램을 선보이는 대표적인 국가유산 축제다. 2026년 봄 축전에는 총 72만 5천여 명이 방문해 역대 최다 관람객을 기록했다. 이번 축전은 가을 궁궐의 계절적 특성을 살려 낮에는 궁궐의 공간과 역사에 집중할 수 있는 전시·관광(투어)·체험 프로그램을, 밤에는 궁궐의 전각과 자연경관을 배경으로 한 공연·체험 프로그램을 확대 운영하여 봄 축전과 차별화된 경험을 선사한다.
■ 고궁에서 펼쳐지는 KBS2 '불후의 명곡' 특별공연 축전 개막 전날인 10월 6일(화) 오후 5시에는 가을 축전의 시작을 축하하는 KBS2 '불후의 명곡 - 2026 궁중문화축전 특집' 특별 공연이 경복궁 흥례문 광장에서 펼쳐진다. '궁, 예술을 깨우다'를 주제로 국악부터 케이팝까지 전 세대가 함께 즐길 수 있는 무대를 선보인다. 관람은 무료이며, KBS <불후의 명곡> 공식 누리집에서 방청을 신청할 수 있다.
■ 4대궁과 종묘의 가을… 궁마다 선보이는 매력 넘치는 프로그램 먼저 ▲ 경복궁에서는 야간관람 권역 전체를 무대로 한 복합 체험 프로그램 '경복궁 한복 연향'(10.9.~10.10. 19:00~21:00)이 진행된다. 왕과 왕비의 행렬을 재현한 '왕가의 산책'(19:00~20:30), 조선 제24대 임금 헌종의 후궁 경빈 김씨가 궁중여성의 사계절 복식에 대해 남긴 기록인 「사절복색자장요람」을 조명하는 전시 '순화궁의 궁중복식 안내서'(19:00~21:00), 궁중복식의 쓰임과 상징을 짚는 이야기쇼 '조선 왕실의 OOTD(Outfit Of The Day(오늘의 패션))'(19:20~19:40), 국가무형유산 기능 전승자들이 직접 한복 제작 과정을 시연하는 '한복 짓는 소리'(19:00~21:00) 등 10월 9일과 10일 양일간 진행되는 다양한 프로그램을 비롯해, 공연과 체험, 전시 등 각 분야를 넘나드는 일정들로 5일간의 축전 기간을 풍성하게 장식한다.
▲ 창덕궁에서는 희정당을 배경으로 공예 전시 '조선 공간 미학: 백(白)의 질서(10.7.~10.11. 10:00~17:00)'가 열린다. 최근 대구간송미술관 '미인도실'의 공간 디자인을 담당한 백종환 WGNB 대표가 전시감독을 맡아 국가무형유산 전승자 등을 비롯한 예술가들의 작품 60여 점을 선보인다. 희정당이 간직한 목조 건축의 리듬과 여백 속에서 비움과 절제, 조화의 질서로 해석한 '백(白)'의 의미를 살펴볼 수 있을 것이다. 또 축전의 인기 프로그램인 창덕궁의 전각과 후원을 걸으며 궁궐의 아침을 경험하는 '아침 궁을 깨우다'도 5일간 하루 두 차례(07:30, 08:00) 운영된다. 그리고 이번 가을 축전을 통해 처음 선보이는 '향아치와 함께하는 규장각 초계문신 워크숍(10.9.~10.11. 14:30)'은 조선 후기 규장각에서 특별교육을 받던 젊은 문신 '초계문신'을 소재로 한 참여형 역사 강연 프로그램이다. 버추얼 역사 크리에이터 '향아치'가 진행을 맡고 매일 각기 다른 분야의 전문가가 참여하는 방식으로, 하루 한 차례씩 열린다. 프로그램이 종료된 후에는 창덕궁 곳곳을 다니는 '향아치'를 찾아 문제를 푸는 '향아치를 찾아라' 행사도 함께 진행된다.
▲ 덕수궁에서는 순종황제가 세상을 떠난 지 100주년을 계기로 대한제국 황실의 역사를 돌아보는 '광무에서 융희까지(10.7.~10.11. 10:00~17:00)'가 덕홍전에서 열린다. 순종황제 연대기 전시와 인공지능(AI)을 활용한 친담회, 전기수와 함께하는 덕수궁 역사탐방 등을 선보인다. 정관헌에서는 '궁중문화축전, K-콘텐츠 플랫폼이 되다'(10.11. 14:00)를 주제로 학술 세미나도 열린다. 준명당에서는 어린이를 위한 '준명당 어린이 학교(10.9.~10.11. 10:00, 13:00, 16:00)'를 선보인다. 고종의 딸 덕혜옹주의 교육 장소였던 준명당의 기록을 토대로 궁중 예절 교육, 궁궐 자연 학습 등의 프로그램을 체험할 수 있다. 참가 어린이는 모두 한복을 입고 입장해야 하며 아역 배우가 덕혜옹주로 등장하는 상황극으로 어린이들의 몰입도를 높인다. 하루 세 차례 진행되며, 7세부터 10세까지 참여할 수 있다.
▲ 창경궁에서는 궁중 일상을 재현하는 '창경궁 시간여행(10.9.~10.10. 12:00, 15:30)'이 명정문·통명전·함인정·문정전을 이동하며 펼쳐진다. 백성을 위로하는 의례부터 정조의 태몽과 탄생 등 조선 왕실의 이야기를 네 개의 장면으로 나눠서 재현한다. 또, 궁궐 조경을 담당하던 관청인 장원서가 배경이 되어 전통 화훼 체험 프로그램인 '동궐 장원서(10.7.~10.11. 10:00, 14:00, 16:00)'도 운영된다. 춘당지 권역에서는 창경궁의 역사와 아름다움을 야간에 펼쳐지는 미디어아트로 감상할 수 있는 '창경궁 물빛연화(10.7.~11.1)'를 운영한다. 가을 축전 기간을 포함하여 하반기에는 안전한 행사 운영과 관람객 혼잡 완화를 위해 사전예약제로 운영한다. 총 8경으로 구성된 주제 중, 제2경 대춘당지에서 펼쳐지는 미디어아트 '물빛연화'는 사전예약자에 한해 관람할 수 있으며, 기간 중 매주 수요일부터 일요일까지 총 20일간 하루 세 차례(19:00, 19:30, 20:00) 운영된다.
▲ 종묘에서는 청소년을 대상으로 '종묘 건축 탐험대(10.10.~10.11. 09:30, 11:30, 14:00, 16:00)'가 진행된다. 향대청·재궁·정전·영녕전을 이동하며 전문 해설사의 설명을 듣고, '세계에서 가장 긴 목조 건축물 정전의 비밀을 찾아라', '정전 vs 영녕전 다른 그림 찾기' 등의 임무를 수행하며 종묘의 건축과 공간에 담긴 이야기를 알아본다.
■ 외국인 참여 기회 확대… 전용 회차·별도 정원 운영 이번 가을 축전은 외국인 관광객의 우리나라 국가유산 향유 기회를 확대하기 위해 외국인 전용 회차와 별도 참여 정원을 마련한다. 대표적으로 '경복궁 한복 연향'은 2일간 총 800명(1일 400명), '아침 궁을 깨우다'는 매일 두 번째 회차(08:00)를 영어로 진행한다. 경복궁 흥례문 광장에서 축전의 시작을 알리는 전야 특별공연에도 외국인 관람석 300석을 마련할 예정이다.
가을 축전 프로그램에 사전 예약이 필요한 프로그램의 예매는 9월 4일(금) 낮 12시부터 프로그램별로 순차적으로 예매가 시작되며, 티켓링크(www.ticketlink.co.kr)에서 예매할 수 있다. 외국인 대상 프로그램은 크리에이트립(www.creatrip.com)에서 예매할 수 있다. 연계 프로그램인 '창경궁 물빛연화'는 9월 11일(금)부터 예매할 수 있다.

Hosted by the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center of the Korea Heritage Service (Director General Jo Gyu-hyeong) and organized by the Korea Heritage Agency (President Lee Gui-young), an affiliated organization of the Korea Heritage Service, K-Royal Culture Festival Fall 2026 will take place over five days from Oct 7 (Wed) to Oct 11 (Sun), at the four palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung and Changgyeonggung Palaces), as well as Jongmyo Shrine.
The K-Royal Culture Festival is Korea's flagship national heritage festival, presenting a wide range of programs across the Four Royal Palaces and Jongmyo Shrine, including performances, exhibitions, hands-on experiences and historical reenactments. The spring editions of the festival in 2026 attracted about 725,000 visitors, setting a new record. This fall's festival will offer a distinctive experience from the spring edition, with an expanded lineup of nighttime viewing, guided tour and hands-on programs designed to make the most of autumn of the royal palaces. During the day, visitors can enjoy exhibitions, tours and experience programs that invite them to explore the spaces and history of the palaces in greater depth. At night, the focus shifts to performances and immersive experiences set against the palaces standing in harmony with natural scenery.
■ K-PALACE Meets K-POP… KBS2 "Immortal Songs" Special Performance On Oct 6 (Tue), the eve of K-Royal Culture Festival Fall 2026, a K-Royal Culture Festival Special Performance: "KBS2 Immortal Songs performance will take place at Heungnyemun Square of Gyeongbokgung Palace to celebrate the opening of the festival. Under the theme "Palaces Awaken the Arts", the performance will bring together music ranging from traditional Korean music to K-POP, offering something for audiences of all generations. Admission is free, and applications to attend the performance will be available later through the official KBS "Immortal Songs" website.
■ Autumn at the Four Royal Palaces and Jongmyo Shrine: A Unique Array of Programs at Each Palace First, ▲ At Gyeongbokgung Palace, "Hanbok Royal Banquet (Yeonhyang)" (Oct 9–10 19:00~21:00) will offer an immersive program spanning the entire area open for nighttime viewing. Highlights include "A Royal Stroll"(Oct 9–10 19:00~20:30), a reenactment of a royal procession featuring the king and queen; "A Guide to Royal Court Attire from Sunhwagung Palace"(Oct 9–10 19:00~21:00), an exhibition spotlighting 「Sajeol Boksaek Jajang Yoram」, a record by Royal Consort Gyeongbin Kim (consort of Heonjong, the 24th king of Joseon) detailing the seasonal attire of women at the royal court; and "Joseon Royal OOTD"(Oct 9–10 19:20~19:40), a fashion talk show exploring the functions and symbolism of royal court attire. A variety of other programs will also be presented, including "The Sounds of Making Hanbok"(Oct 9–10 19:00~21:00), featuring live demonstrations by holders of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
▲ At Changdeokgung Palace, the craft exhibition "Tracing Joseon Space : The Rhythm of Stillness" (Oct 7–11 10:00~17:00) will be held at Huijeongdang Hall. The exhibition is directed by Baek Jong-hwan, CEO of WGNB. Drawing on the rhythm of traditional wooden architecture and the use of empty space, the exhibition interprets "white" as an aesthetic order defined by emptiness, restraint and harmony. also, "Awakening the Morning Palace", a popular program at the festival that invites visitors to experience the palace at daybreak while walking through its halls and the Secret Garden, will be offered twice daily throughout the five-day period. And the first to be presented the "Gyujanggak Chogye Munsin Workshop" (Oct 9–11 14:30) at Changdeokgung Palace is an interactive history lecture program inspired by the "Chogye Munsin", young civil officials who received special training at Gyujanggak, the royal library and scholarly institution of the late Joseon Dynasty. Virtual history-themed creator "Hyangachi" will host the program, joined by experts from various fields as panelists. Held once a day, each session will explore different topics. After each session, visitors can also take part in "Find Hyangachi," an activity where they search for Hyangachi around Changdeokgung Palace and solve quizzes along the way.
▲ At Deoksugung Palace, "From Gwangmu(光武) to Yunghui(隆熙)" (Oct 7–11 10:00~17:00) will be held at Deokhongjeon Hall to mark the 100th anniversary of the passing of Emperor Sunjong and reflect on the history of the Korean imperial family. The program will feature a chronological exhibition on Emperor Sunjong, an AI-powered conversation session, and a historical tour of Deoksugung Palace accompanied by a Jeongisu (traditional storyteller). An academic seminar under the theme "K-Royal Culture Festival as a K-Content Platform" will also be held at Jeonggwanheon Hall. At Junmyeongdang Hall of Deoksugung Palace, the "JunMyeongDang Hall Children's School" (Oct 9–11 10:00, 13:00, 16:00) will offer a program for children. The program gives children the opportunity to experience royal court etiquette and learn about nature within the palace grounds. All participating children are required to wear hanbok, while a child actor portraying Princess Deokhye will engage them in role-play scenarios designed to create a more immersive experience. The program will be held three times a day and is open to children aged 7 to 10.
▲ At Changgyeonggung Palace, "A Time Travel, Changgyeonggung Palace" (Oct 9–10 12:00, 15:30) will recreate scenes from daily life at the royal court across Myeongjeongmun Gate, Tongmyeongjeon Hall, Haminjeong Pavilion and Munjeongjeon Hall. "Donggowol Jangwonseo" (Oct 7–11 10:00, 14:00, 16:00) , a hands-on traditional horticulture program inspired by Jangwonseo, the government office responsible for landscaping the royal palaces, will also be offered.
▲ At Jongmyo Shrine, "Jongmyo Shrine Architectural Expedition" (Oct 10–11 09:30, 11:30, 14:00, 16:00) will offer a mission-based guided tour for teenager visitors. Participants will explore Hyangdaecheong Hall, Jaegung, Jeongjeon Hall and Yeongnyeongjeon Hall while completing missions such as "Uncover the Secrets of Jeongjeon, the World's longest Wooden Shrine Building" and "Spot the Differences: Jeongjeon vs. Yeongnyeongjeon". Through these activities, participants will discover the stories embedded in Jongmyo Shrine's architecture and spaces.
■ Expanded Opportunities for International Visitors: Dedicated Sessions and Reserved Capacity K-Royal Culture Festival Fall 2026 will expand opportunities for international visitors to experience Korea's national heritage by offering dedicated sessions and reserving a set number of places specifically for them. "Hanbok Royal Banquet (Yeonhyang)" will reserve a total of 800 places for international visitors over two days (400 per day), while the second daily session of "Awakening the Morning Palace" will be conducted in English exclusively for international visitors. A total of 300 seats will also be reserved for international visitors at the special eve performance at Heungnyemun Square of Gyeongbokgung Palace, which will mark the commencement of the festival.
■ "Moonlight Lotus Show", Illuminating Changgyeonggung Palace on Autumn Nights & "Palace Concert: Ballet × Sujecheon" at Gyeongbokgung Palace During the Festival period, partner program "Moonlight Lotus Show at Changgyeonggung Palace" (Oct 7 – Nov 1) will welcome visitors to the Chundangji Pond area. This nighttime media art program combines light and visual projections with the natural scenery around Chundangji Pond, offering visitors a unique way to experience the history and beauty of Changgyeonggung Palace. This fall, a pilot advance reservation system will be introduced to ensure safe operation and reduce crowding. "Moonlight Lotus Show", a media art presentation at Scene 2, Daechundangji Pond, will be open exclusively to visitors with advance reservations. It will run for a total of 20 days, from Wednesday through Sunday each week, with three sessions per day at 19:00, 19:30 and 20:00.
Tickets for individual festival programs will go on sale sequentially from the noon of Sep 4 (Fri) and can be booked through Ticketlink (www.ticketlink.co.kr). Programs for international visitors can be booked through the Korean travel platform Creatrip (www.creatrip.com).Tickets for the partner programs "Moonlight Lotus Show at Changgyeonggung Palace" and "Palace Concert - Ballet × Sujecheon" will be available from Sep 11 (Fri).
