룩셈부르크와 대한민국이 수교를 맺은 지 62년 만에 주한 룩셈부르크 대사관이 개관되었다고 들었습니다.
진심으로 축하드리며, <자크 플리스> 대사님의 초대 부임을 환영합니다.
(통역) It took 62 years to open the Luxembourg Embassy in Seoul since our two countries forged the diplomatic ties.
I want to express my most heartfelt congratulations to the country and special congratulations to the inaugural Luxembourg Ambassador to Seoul, H.E. Jacques Flies.
오늘 6·25전쟁에 참전한 룩셈부르크 용사님들을 기억하기 위한 특별 전시회를 개막하게 되어 매우 뜻깊게 생각하며 축하드립니다.
(통역) Today we are here to celebrate a special exhibition dedicated to the Luxembourg veterans of the Korean War.
오늘부터 선보이는 사진과 6·25전쟁 당시의 흔적을 간직한 유물 한 점 한 점은 오로지 이 땅의 평화를 위해 싸웠던 룩셈부르크 참전용사들의 헌신의 역사이자, 대한민국을 지켜낸 숭고한 역사입니다.
(통역) The photos and items that will be made public today are the stories of the Luxembourg veterans who dedicated themselves to preserving peace on this land and the noble history of defending the Republic of Korea.
룩셈부르크 소대는 1951년 1월 31일 부산에 상륙하여, 금굴산 전투, 학당리 전투, 잣골 전투 등에서 혁혁한 공을 세웠으며, 2명이 전사하고 13명이 부상당하는 안타까운 희생이 있었습니다.
(통역) The Luxembourg platoon arrived in Busan on January 31, 1951 and made great achievements in the Battles of Imjin River, Haktang-ri, and Chatkol, and two of them made the ultimate sacrifice and 13 were wounded.
룩셈부르크는 자국 역사상 최초이자 유일하게 전투부대를 6·25전쟁에 파병한 대한민국의 우방국입니다.
룩셈부르크 참전용사들의 헌신은 공산세력의 침입으로부터 대한민국을 지켜내는 중요한 힘이 되었습니다.
(통역) For the first and only time in its history, Luxembourg sent a combat troop to the Korean War, which made our two countries good friends.
Luxembourg veterans’ noble sacrifice gave us great strength to defend ourselves from communist aggression.
이번 전시회를 통해 어려움에 처한 우리나라에 도움의 손길을 내밀어 준 룩셈부르크 참전용사님들을 기억하면서, 이 분들의 희생으로 지켜낸 자유와 평화의 소중함을 가슴 깊이 새기는 계기가 되기를 바랍니다.
(통역) I hope this exhibition will give us and visitors time to remember Luxembourg veterans who extended a helping hand to the Republic of Korea and remind ourselves of the true meaning and value of freedom and peace that the veterans fought hard to preserve.
대한민국 정부는 자유민주주의를 지킨 룩셈부르크의 영웅들을 기억하고, 그 숭고한 희생정신과 인류애를 미래 세대에게 계승하며, 룩셈부르크와의 우정을 더욱 굳건하게 할 수 있도록 성심을 다하겠습니다.
(통역) The Republic of Korea government will do its best to remember the heroes of the Luxembourg battalions who defended the Republic of Korea’s freedom and democracy, and teach future generations about their noble sacrifice and love for human life, and further promote the friendship between our two countries.
끝으로 뜻깊은 특별전을 준비해주신 룩셈부르크 대사관과 전쟁기념사업회에 감사드리며, 함께해주신 모든 분들의 건승을 기원합니다.
