I am Kang Jung-ai, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Republic of Korea.
오늘 6·25전쟁 정전 71주년을 기념하여 여러분께 영상으로나마 인사를 드리게 되어 매우 기쁘게 생각합니다.
I am pleased to join you in commemorating the 71st Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement today.
먼저 70여년 전 6·25전쟁으로 위기에 처한 대한민국을 위해 1만 킬로미터나 되는 먼 거리를 기꺼이 달려와 용감하게 싸워주신 참전용사와 그 가족분들께 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드립니다.
My deepest gratitude goes to New Zealand veterans who came 10,000 kilometers to defend the Republic of Korea during the Korean War more than 70 years ago.
In addition, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Korean War veterans and their families.
오늘 뜻깊은 자리를 준비해 주신 <김홍기> 총영사님과 관계자 분들, 그리고 참석해 주신 모든 분들께도 감사드립니다.
I also want to thank Consul General Kim, HongKi of the Korean Consulate in Auckland and his staff for organizing this meaningful event and distinguished guests for their presence.
6천여명의 뉴질랜드 참전용사님들은 마흔다섯명(45명)이 목숨을 잃고, 일흔아홉명(79명)이 부상당하고, 한명(1명)이 실종되는 희생 속에서도 가평 전투, 후크고지 전투 등에서 활약하며 공산세력으로부터 대한민국을 지켜주셨습니다.
Around 6,000 New Zealand veterans made great achievements in the Battle of Gapyeong and the Battle of the Hook, securing the Republic of Korea from the Communists, and of them, 45 were killed, 79 wounded and one was missing in action.
대한민국 정부는 이 땅의 평화와 번영의 기반을 마련해 준 유엔참전용사 분들의 희생과 헌신을 잊지 않고 기억하며 미래 세대에게 계승해 나갈 것입니다.
The Korean government will always remember the veterans’ sacrifice and contribution that laid the foundation for peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula.
We will do our best to pass their legacy to our future generations.
지난 4월 재방한 초청행사를 통해 뉴질랜드를 비롯해 영국, 호주, 캐나다 등에서 오신 참전용사 분들을 모시고 직접 감사의 말씀을 드릴 수 있었던 뜻깊은 자리를 가졌습니다.
This year April, the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs invited veterans from New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada to Korea to express the country’s gratitude to the veterans and families.
오늘은 비록 영상으로 만나뵙게 되었지만, 여러분 모두 꼭 직접 찾아 뵙고 감사의 말씀을 전할 수 있는 기회가 빨리 오기를 소망합니다.
Although we are meeting via video today, I sincerely hope to have the opportunity to visit each of you in person soon to express my gratitude.
