오늘 국가보훈부와 유로클리오가 6·25전쟁과 유엔군 참전의 역사를 미래세대에게 제대로 가르치고자 손을 맞잡게 된 것을 매우 뜻깊게 생각합니다.
I am very pleased that the Ministry and EuroClio joined hands together today to improve teaching and learning of the Korean War and UN veterans’ contribution to the Korean War, for our future generations.
6·25전쟁을 글로벌 차원에서 기억하고 계승하기 위한 협약에 동참해 주신 유로클리오 <우테 애커만> 부회장님, <스티븐 스테거스> 소장님을 비롯한 관계자 분들께 깊이 감사드립니다.
My special thanks go to President of EuroClio, Ute Ackermann and Steven Stegers, Executive Director of EuroClio, and educators affiliated with EuroClio for their dedication to global remembrance of the Korean War and efforts to pass veterans’ legacy to future generations.
6·25전쟁은 정의를 위해 국제사회가 연대한 가장 전형적인 사례로, 유엔의 깃발 아래 22개국은 잘 알지도 못하는 먼 나라에 병력을 보내주셨습니다.
The Korean War is one of the most exemplary cases of solidarity in the international community for the cause of justice, and the 22 countries sent combat troops and assistance to a country they barely knew, united under the United Nations flag.
3년 1개월 간의 전쟁 속에서 백구십팔만 팔천여(198만 8천여) 용사님들은 세계 보편적인 가치인 자유와 평화를 위해 자신들을 기꺼이 희생하셨고, 흥남철수작전에서와 같이 따뜻한 인류애를 발휘해 주셨습니다.
During the war that lasted three years and a month, 1.988 million veterans sacrificed themselves for the universal value of freedom and peace and they practiced humanitarianism in operations and battles, such as Heungnam evacuation.
이처럼 국제사회의 연대로 세계 보편적인 가치들을 지켜낸 6·25전쟁은 반드시 기억되고 미래로 계승되어야 할 우리 모두의 역사입니다.
As such, the Korean War is a history of solidarity of the international community protecting the universal values, and it is also a history for all of us that should remember and pass on to future generations.
이러한 차원에서 오늘 국가보훈부와 유로클리오가 6·25전쟁사의 글로벌 교육을 위해 힘을 합친 것은 대단히 의미가 깊다고 생각합니다.
In this regard, today is truly meaningful as the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and EuroClio join hands together for global teaching and learning of the Korean War and its history.
오늘 협약을 계기로 국가보훈부와 유로클리오는 힘을 합쳐 70여 년 전 유엔참전용사의 희생이 대단히 용감한 행동이었고, 또 그 희생으로 대한민국이 이토록 발전할 수 있었음을 유엔참전국의 미래세대에게 성심을 다해 가르치겠습니다.
Based on today’s partnership, MPVA and EuroClio will work together to teach young generations in the UN Sending States about the bravery and sacrifice of veterans more than 70 years ago. We will also teach them about remarkable growth and progress of the Republic of Korea, which was made possible based on the sacrifices of UN veterans.
끝으로 협약을 체결해 주신 유로클리오에 다시 한번 감사드리며, 이어질 만찬에서 더 깊이 소통하고 우정을 나누기를 기대합니다. 감사합니다.
