6·25전쟁에 대한 유엔국 참전의 의미를 되새기고 22개 참전국의 미래세대에 대한 교육방안을 모색하기 위해 모인 여러분과 뜻깊은 만찬을 함께하게 되어 매우 기쁘게 생각합니다.
I am very pleased that we have gathered together here to remind the meaning of the UN Sending States’ contribution to the Korean War and explore how to teach future generations in the 22 Sending States about the Korean War.
먼저, 오늘 행사 개최를 위해 애써주신 한국전쟁유업재단 <한종우> 이사장님, <조셉 카브> 소장님과 관계자분들께 감사의 말씀을 드립니다.

특히 영국의 참전영웅이자 6·25전쟁의 산 증인이신 <콜린 태커리>, <마이크 모그리지>, <알란 가이> 용사님께 깊은 존경과 감사의 뜻을 전합니다.
I also want to acknowledge and express my deepest gratitude to British veterans who are with us here, Mr. Colin Thackery, Mr. Mike Modgridge, and Mr. Alan Guy, who are living heroes and witnesses of the Korean War.

어제부터 유엔참전국의 역사교사들과 대한민국의 예비교사들이 모여 6·25전쟁 유엔참전사 교육의 활성화를 위한 열띤 워크숍이 진행되었습니다.
Starting yesterday, history and social studies educators gathered from the UN Sending States and Korea and had active conversations and discussions on how to promote teaching and learning of the Korean War and the UN Forces’ participation in the war.
이틀간 수고해 주신 역사교사님들을 비롯한 관계자 분들께 감사의 마음을 담아 박수를 보내드립니다.
I applaud and extend my sincere gratitude to the teachers and organizers for the past two days.
1950년 6·25전쟁으로 위기에 처한 대한민국을 지키기 위해, 22개 국가에서 백구십팔만 팔천여명(198만 8천여명)의 용사들을 보내주셨습니다.
이들은 3년 1개월간 삶과 죽음이 오가는 한반도의 전장에서 목숨을 걸고 싸웠고, 수많은 희생을 치른 끝에 대한민국을 지켜냈습니다.
When the Republic of Korea was in great danger due to the Korean War of 1950, 22 countries sent 1.988 million veterans to help the country in danger.
They fought bravely in fatal battlefields across the Korean peninsula over three years and a month, and they made great sacrifices and finally defended the Republic of Korea.

6·25전쟁 유엔참전의 역사는 단순히 70여년 전의 지나간 과거만은 아닙니다.
Distinguished guests!
The UN’s contribution to the Korean War is not just the past more than seven decades ago.
6·25전쟁의 산 증인이신 세분을 비롯한 유엔참전용사님들과 그 가족분들이 계시고, 대한민국 국민도 70여년 전 내밀어준 도움의 손길에 담긴 따뜻한 온기를 잊지 않고 있습니다.
We are still have living witnesses of that war, including the three veterans who are with us and veterans’ families, and people in Korea have never forgotten the veterans’ love who extended us a helping hand more than seven decades ago.
특히 유엔참전용사님들의 국경을 초월한 인류애와, 인류의 공통가치인 자유와 평화를 위한 자기희생은 반드시 기억되고 미래로 계승되어야 할 숭고한 정신가치입니다.
We must remember and pass on UN veterans’ respect for human life, regardless of nationalities, and their selfless sacrifice for the universal value of freedom and peace.
이러한 측면에서 유엔참전용사의 생생한 경험과 세계적으로 귀감이 되는 가치들을 교육자료집에 제대로 담아내고, 미래세대가 효과적으로 배울 수 있도록 하는 방법을 논의하는 이번 월드 콩그레스는 대단히 깊은 의미를 지닌다고 생각합니다.
I believe that this World Congress is truly significant where educators and teachers make educational materials of living stories of UN veterans and examples and cases that can inspire the world, and discuss how to teach next generations efficiently.
대한민국 정부도 유엔참전국별 교육자료집의 제작과 활용에 건설적인 의견이 수렴되고, 효과적인 방안이 도출될 수 있도록 월드 콩그레스에 적극적인 지원을 아끼지 않겠습니다.
The Republic of Korean government will support World Congress so that educators and teachers can draw constructive feedback on making and utilizing educational materials by each UN Sending State.
더 나아가 대한민국과 유엔참전국의 학생들이 6·25전쟁을 매개로 교류하는 유엔참전국 국제 교육과정인 ‘글로벌 아카데미’를 더욱 확대하여 운영하는 등 참전국 미래세대를 위한 교육 프로그램을 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠습니다.
On top of that, the ministry will expand our education programs for future generations and most notably, our Global Academy program where students in the UN Sending States exchange their ideas and network each other based on the ties of the Korean War.
끝으로 오늘 만찬에 함께해주신 모든 분들께 다시 한번 감사드리며, 언제나 건강하시고 행복하시기를 기원합니다.
