It is a profound honor to stand before you today. I am Kang Jung-ai, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
유엔참전용사 국제 추모의 날을 맞아 이곳 부산에서 스무 개(20개) 나라의 유엔 참전용사님들과 가족분들을 모시게 되어 기쁜 마음입니다.
First and foremost, I am deeply pleased to have UN veterans and families from 20 countries gathered here in Busan to commemorate International Memorial Day dedicated to UN veterans of the Korean War.
오찬에 함께해주신 주한 대사님들을 비롯한 내외 귀빈들께도 감사의 인사를 드립니다.
I extend my special gratitude to the ambassadors present with us today.
이 자리의 주인공이신 유엔참전용사님들께서는 70년여 년 전, 대한민국의 내일을 위해 당신들의 오늘을 바치셨습니다.
The true guests of honor here are UN veterans, who dedicated their lives over 70 years ago for our tomorrow.
그 내일을 살고 있는 대한민국 국민의 한 사람으로서, 늘 기억하고 감사하게 생각하고 있습니다.
As a citizen living in that tomorrow in the Republic of Korea, I always remember and express my profound gratitude for your sacrifices.
적의 침략을 물리친 승리의 역사부터, 폐허에서 세계적인 항구도시로 발전한 이 곳 부산과, 이 땅에 깃든 자유와 평화, 민주주의까지, 70여 년 전에는 그 어느 것 하나 장담할 수 없었습니다.
Seventy years ago, nothing was guaranteed—from the victory in repelling aggression to today’s Busan, which has risen from the ashes of war to become the world’s premier port city, and the freedom, peace, and democracy we enjoy today.
이 모든 것들이 실현되고, 대한민국이 오늘날 평화와 번영을 누릴 수 있게 된 것은 참전용사님들의 희생과 공헌 덕분입니다.
The Republic of Korea owes all of its achievements – freedom and prosperity we enjoy today - to the noble sacrifices and contributions of Korean War veterans.
대한민국 정부와 국민은 유엔참전용사 여러분을 영웅으로 기억하고, 그 숭고한 헌신과 인류애를 미래세대에게 전승하기 위해 노력하겠습니다.
The government and people of the Republic of Korea will do everything in our power to honor UN veterans as heroes, ensuring that their legacy and respect for human life are passed on to future generations.
또한, 스물두 개(22개) 참전국과의 협력을 더욱 강화하여 여러분들의 피와 땀으로 맺어진 참전의 인연과 자유의 연대를
굳건히 이어 나가겠습니다.
We are also committed to promoting cooperation with the 22 UN Sending States to further strengthen the ties and solidarity for freedom forged in the blood and sweat of these heroes.
대한민국을 지켜주신 영웅들과 그 가족들께 깊은 경의와 감사를 표하며, 대한민국에서 보내시는 시간이 여러분에게 의미 있고 행복한 추억으로 남기를 소망합니다.
Once again, I express my deepest respect and gratitude to the heroes for protecting our nation and to their families. I hope your time here will be remembered fondly and joyfully.
