올해는 한-체코 수교 35주년을 맞는 뜻깊은 해입니다. 가장 먼저, 대한민국과 체코의 국민들이 민주주의를 수호해 온 공통점을 지니고 있음을 강조하며, 이와 같이 서로 공유하는 가치를 토대로 양국 관계를 더욱 발전시켜 나갈 것을 제안했습니다.
파벨 대통령은 지난 6월 체코 두코바니 신규 원전 건설 최종 계약 체결이 한국 기업의 탁월한 역량을 입증한 사례라고 평가했습니다. 이에 체코가 우리 기업의 투자 활동을 적극 지원해준 점에 감사를 표하며, 원전을 넘어 반도체, 전기차, 방산 분야까지 협력이 확대될 수 있도록 함께 노력하자고 전했습니다.
아울러 파벨 대통령은 국제사회 변화 속에서 민주국가 간 협력 강화를 강조하며 방한 의사를 밝혔고, 이에 대한 환영의 뜻과 함께 양국 관계가 더욱 발전하기를 기대한다고 화답했습니다.
I was very pleased to have my first summit meeting with President Petr Pavel of the Czech Republic.
This year marks the meaningful 35th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the Czech Republic. At the outset, I emphasized that both countries share a commonality of our people having defended democracy, and proposed that, based on these shared values, we further advance bilateral relations.
President Pavel noted that the signing of the final contract in June for the construction of the new Dukovany nuclear power plant demonstrated the outstanding capabilities of Korean companies. In response, I expressed my gratitude for the Czech Republic's active support of our companies' investment activities, and conveyed my hope that our cooperation will extend beyond nuclear energy to semiconductors, electric vehicles, and defense industries.
Furthermore, President Pavel underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation among democratic nations amid changes in the international community, and expressed his intention to visit Korea. I welcomed this and responded with the expectation that our bilateral relations will continue to grow stronger.
