유엔군사령부 설립 75주년을 맞아 뜻깊은 기념행사를 준비해 주신 유엔군사령부에 감사의 뜻을 전하며, 이 자리에 함께해 주신 모든 분들께도 감사드립니다. First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the United Nations Command for organizing this meaningful event to mark the 75th anniversary of its establishment. My heartfelt thanks also go to everyone present here with us today.
1950년 7월 24일, 북한의 남침이라는 국가적 위기 속에서 유엔군사령부가 대한민국에 설립되었습니다. On July 24, 1950, in response to North Korea’s invasion, the United Nations Command was established in the Republic of Korea.
이는 유엔 창설 이래, 집단안보를 실현한 최초의 시도로, 한반도의 평화뿐 아니라 세계 평화의 새로운 이정표가 되었습니다. This was the very first effort to realize collective security since the founding of the United Nations, and it marked a historic milestone not only for peace on the Korean Peninsula, but also for global peace and security.
22개국 약 2백만 명의 용사들로 구성된 유엔군사령부는 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 지키기 위해 온 힘을 다했습니다. Nearly two million brave service members from 22 nations came together under the United Nations Command and devoted themselves fully to protecting the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea.
이 숭고한 희생과 헌신이 있었기에 우리는 적의 침략을 물리치고 정전협정을 체결할 수 있었습니다. 대한민국은 유엔군사령부의 헌신적인 활약을 영원히 기억할 것입니다. It was through their noble sacrifice and unwavering dedication that we were able to overcome the aggression and eventually reach the signing of the Armistice Agreement. The Republic of Korea will always remember, with deep respect and gratitude, the extraordinary efforts and devotion of the United Nations Command.
정전협정 이후에도 유엔군사령부는 대한민국에 주둔하며 압도적인 전쟁 억지력을 바탕으로 대한민국의 안보와 번영의 토대가 되어주고 있습니다. Since the Armistice, the Command has remained steadfast on the Korean Peninsula. It continues to provide powerful deterrence against war and has served as a vital foundation for Korea’s security and prosperity.
한반도 평화의 든든한 버팀목인 유엔군사령부에 깊은 감사를 표합니다. We offer our deepest appreciation to the United Nations Command for being a reliable guardian of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
대한민국 정부는 유엔군사령부의 깃발 아래 대한민국을 위해 헌신한 모든 분들을 기억하고 유엔군사령부와의 인연을 미래로 이어나가는 데 최선을 다하겠습니다. The Government of the Republic of Korea remains committed to honoring all those who served under the UNC flag, and to carrying this important legacy forward into the future.
이를 위해, 유엔참전용사님들을 모시는 재방한 초청 사업, 후손 캠프, 장학사업 등을 통해 6·25전쟁으로 맺어진 역사와 인연을 미래로 이어나가는 데도 만전을 기하겠습니다. On top of that, we will do our utmost to pass on the shared history and friendship forged during the Korean War to the next generations through our “Revisit Korea” program, where we invite UN veterans to Korea, and via youth camps, scholarship programs, and other initiatives.
끝으로, 유엔참전용사님들을 비롯한 유엔군사령부 장병님들께 깊은 존경과 감사의 뜻을 전하며 함께해주신 모든 분들의 건승을 기원합니다. In closing, I would like to convey my deepest respect and gratitude to all veterans and service members of the United Nations Command. I wish each and every one of you continued good health and happiness.
